Making a difference --

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."
(Winston Churchill)
Lauren believed this.  She loved to serve and she loved to give.  Less than two weeks before Lauren passed away, Christmas gifts were delivered to 150 other oncology patients at PCMC -- gift bags with books, stuffed animals, loomed hats (hand made by Carlie and Lauren) and other items that the two of them had collected and planned months before.  We were often asked as the parents to 'fore-go' giving birthday or Christmas gifts and giving the money to a needy cause instead.  It's just who she is ... she never stopped giving, regardless of her circumstances.
There are hundreds of different charities and it seems limitless needs the world over.  But, there are also hundreds of ways for someone to contribute and make a difference in this world.  It only matters that we all find meaningful ways to serve others.

Rafiki's Charity Walk October 09

Humanitarian Relief in Peru or Kenya
Lauren held a particular fascination and love of orphans in Peru and fulfilled a lifetime dream of going to Peru to provide aid last June.  Humanitarian relief efforts for Peru are expeditions led by David Webb and your interest in being on such an expedition can be reached through the "contact us" section of our business:

Lauren always had a desire to learn Sign Language (and was in a class at school when she passed.)  Through this class, she came into awareness of a special organization that helps deaf children in Kenya.  Despite the discomfort of walking, she joined the charity walk in October of this year.  To find out more about this organization, visit:

Making donations by purchasing Lauren's t-shirts / sweatshirts, paintings or her book.

As announced earlier, we will again be making these items available with all proceeds going to benefit one or more of Lauren's "Top 5" charities.  Since we have to be careful with legal red tape, we need to find out how much interest there is before determining how best to offer them.  So, let us know if you are interested and we will reply with directions as to how to receive it.  THANKS.  (All proceeds from these sales will go to 'living her legacy' through donations to those charities.)

(I've been trying all day to upload the images, but they aren't cooperating -- if you need to see something, you can e-mail and we'll try that way.)
